Schoolchildren in the West Country have created a patchwork quilt to donate to Help for Heroes, a charity which supports soldiers injured in conflicts.

Pupils from St John's Primary School in Clevedon collected pieces of red fabric which were then stitched together into a throw by resident Grace Edwards in order to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The quilt depicts a poppy, the symbol of remembrance for soldiers involved in the two World Wars and will be sent to the charity as a means of saying thank you to troops serving the British Army.

According to the Weston, Worle & Somerset Mercury, the school's remembrance service this year will see the quilt presented to a soldier, who will take it to Hedley Court and then to Help for Heroes.

The Galloway Gazette recently reported that Malcolm Middleton, John Robinson and Tom Hudson from the region will all take part in a mammoth 2,000 mile rally to raise funds for injured soldiers through Help for Heroes.
