A dad from Stockton is to traverse the Himalayas in an effort to raise funds for troops injured while serving on the frontline.<\/p>\n
Kevin Baker, deputy governor of Kirklevington Grange prison, is heading off to the mountain range in support of the Help for Heroes charity, the Gazette Live reports.<\/p>\n
The hiker has collected more than £8,000 in sponsorship money, beating his initial target of £4,500.<\/p>\n
He said: "I'm extremely grateful for all the people who have donated so far and the organisations, businesses and even the prisoners have contributed."<\/p>\n
The dad of four – who has been training for the challenge for a year – said he would love the total to reach £10,000, as it would be a great achievement that underlines the generosity of the people of Teesside.<\/p>\n
Account manager at construction company Wilmott Dixon Nic Clark is to try his hand at being a rock star at the Construction Rocks festival in an attempt to generate funds for Help for Heroes, the Surrey Comet reported.<\/p>\n
