The popularity of online dating is not just confined to the UK, it has been suggested.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Joanne Hart noted the medium is widely utilised in Germany, Australia and the US – which is home to the most advanced internet liaison market in the world.

The reporter observed there are currently 15 million single people in Britain – and a third of them have attempted to hook up with a prospective partner via the world wide web.

But it seems the system can prosper anywhere on the planet, she indicated, adding: "Online dating services can develop in any country where consumers have internet access and credit cards."

Ms Hart stated singletons are tending to date for longer spells than they ever have done before and claimed large numbers of them are doing so through online methods.

Recent posts on the My Sun's Woman Forum suggested playing it cool can be one of the most effective ways to approach a date.
