Vauxhall is poised to step up its support for British soldiers by embarking on a two-week tour collecting donations from dealers across the UK.

The vehicle manufacturer claimed it has always supported the forces – beginning with supplying troops with vehicles during both world wars.

According to Sarah Walker from the soldier charity, the funds already donated by Vauxhall have been "a real boon" for the cause.

Duncan Aldred, managing director at the car firm, added: "Vauxhall is proud of its employees and retailers who are continuing to support combat personnel through Help for Heroes."

On top of receiving support from the motoring manufacturer, the armed forces have been backed by ageing rock band Status Quo.

The band is planning to re-release its 1986 hit In the Army Now next month and all funds raised will go towards the British Forces Foundation and Help for Heroes, according to the BBC.
