A group of Vodafone employees is set to take on a 950-mile challenge in a bid to raise cash for British charity Help for Heroes, which is dedicated to providing better facilities for wounded servicemen and women.

Tim Howe, Mark Letsome, Gareth Mitchell and Barrie Shearman plan to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats over a period of 12 days with a target to finish the journey on Wednesday August 18th, reports Newbury Today.

Family members, friends, active servicemen and a support team will join the four on the journey, which has already drawn support from a number of organisations, including Newbury’s Banjo Cycles.

Mobile phone firms Nokia and Blackberry manufacturer Research In Motion have also provided clothing and tracking devices for the group, which has raised more than £5,000 for the cause.

The challenge has been dubbed The Long Way Up and the riders’ progress can be tracked on a website bearing the same name.

BBC Stoke and Staffordshire reported recently that Paul Irving plans to run 500 miles for 100 days to raise cash for Help for Heroes.
