{"id":438,"date":"2010-08-04T16:57:39","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T16:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forcespenpals.net\/p=?438"},"modified":"2010-08-04T16:57:39","modified_gmt":"2010-08-04T16:57:39","slug":"windsurf-marathon-to-raise-cash-for-help-for-heroes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forcespenpals.net\/gb\/news\/windsurf-marathon-to-raise-cash-for-help-for-heroes\/","title":{"rendered":"Windsurf marathon to raise cash for Help for Heroes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three soldiers are poised to do their bit for soldier charity Help for Heroes by taking part in a windsurfing marathon, which will see them sail around the Isle of Wight.<\/p>\n<p>Having taken inspiration from injured rifleman Craig Wood of the Second Battalion the Rifles who, prior to joining the forces was an avid windsurfer, the army personnel will attempt to complete the 56-mile challenge in mid September depending on wind and tide conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Lieutenant Philip Bent of the Royal Navy told the Isle of Wight County Press the marathon will take a lot of physical and mental determination.<\/p>\n<p>He added: &ldquo;I have raced around the island six times on yachts, so for me windsurfing around is the next logical step. It is a big challenge and will push us to the limit.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A couple from Leicestershire are also hoping to raise funds for troops by completing a 240-mile trip of the Grand Union Canal by pedalo in aid of Support Our Soldiers, the BBC recently reported.<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ADNFCR-2867-ID-19919483-ADNFCR\"
