Single soldiers looking at venturing into the world of online dating may be wise to remain honest in regards to their personal details.

According to dating specialist Chelsea Davison, lying on a profile could render a potential partner suspicious of later fabrications, ology.com reports.

The expert noted she has been put off guys she met over the internet when she realised they had been economical with the truth.

This can relate to many aspects, but Ms Davison highlighted discrepancies in height and age as being particularly common.

"Look, if you’re lying on a first date (or before, even), this just suggests you will be dishonest in a relationship," she explained.

The industry figure added being up-front about any negative qualities can help attract the right people and avoid nasty surprises when meeting in the flesh.

Courier Post Online contributors Steve Wood and Samantha Costa recently claimed web courtships are becoming increasingly commonplace in today’s society.
