England cricketer Andrew Flintoff has shown his support for Help for Heroes by taking part in a match to raise funds for the charity.

The star was joined by a number of other sportsmen and celebrities at Downtown Hall, the Ludlow and Tenbury Wells Advertiser reports.

These included John Challis, Garin Jenkins, Sue Holderness and Nick Owen, among others.

Around 350 guests took part in the celebration and organisers hope it will raise between £20,000 and £30,000 for Help for Heroes and Elton Church.

During the proceedings, Flintoff spoke of how he remembered a trip to Afghanistan in 2009 with Gary Lineker and was humbled by the experience of meeting the brave troops out there.

The celebrities took the time after the get-together to sign autographs for fans, the newspaper added.

Hundreds of well-wishers recently attended the Abingdon Station Armed Forces Open Day, which provided the public with a chance to show their appreciation for the job being performed by troops overseas.
