Soldiers may want to get their hands on as many tomatoes as they can after scientists discovered a natural ingredient in the seeds which can help them live a long life.

They have professor Asim Dutta-Roy, from the Rowett Institute in Aberdeen, to thank for the discovery after he stumbled upon it while looking at the benefits of a Mediterranean diet.

What he found was a gel that is colourless and tasteless and can help maintain healthy circulation by stopping blood from clotting, making it nature’s very own aspirin.

The substance has now been patented as Fruitflow and professor Dutta-Roy said it all looks good so far.

"To date, no side effects have been demonstrated during the development of Fruitflow," he added.

Soldiers who want to maintain their good looks may want to invest some of their hard-earned money on some Inneov Fermete tablets, which use tomato extract to help fight wrinkles.
