The Invicta Foundation Shop in Colchester has arranged an advent calendar with a twist this year. The military charity is collecting goodies for each day during the countdown to Christmas in order to give presents to Armed Forces veterans, instead of handing out the traditional daily chocolate we know advent calendars for.<\/p>\n

Residents, businesses and organisations in the area are all getting involved with the reverse advent calendar, providing all sorts of gifts to be given to those who served in the Forces, reports gazette-news.co.uk. Donations can be made right up until December 23rd, which gives the charity enough time to put the presents together and hand them out to veterans. <\/p>\n

Any gifts are welcome, with everything from CDs, books, toys, sweets, gift sets and hampers having been handed over already. Donations can be made daily between 9.30am and 5pm, with the charity's Invicta Bears helping to oversee everything.<\/p>\n

Welfare manager Cheryl Hall told the news provider that it is always important to support veterans, but this time of year often requires extra support. <\/p>\n

"Christmas can be a lonely time for veterans.<\/p>\n

"Donating a few little luxuries can make a huge difference.<\/p>\n

"In the festive period it is important we that we teach our children the values of giving and helping those in need.<\/p>\n

"One small action and gesture can go a long way.”<\/p>\n
