A group of cyclists of from the Tedworth House Recovery Centre set off to Windsor as part of a charity bike ride, it has been revealed.

The group, known as the West 100 Sportive riders began their 100-mile journey, during which they were joined by a separate group of charity cyclists known as the West 280 riders, who had set off from Plymouth.

The cyclists rode through towns and villages including Andover, Whitchurch, Basingstoke and Odiham, before stopping overnight on Guildford.

Despite having a tough ride and coming across many obstacles along the way, their motivation to be reunited with other volunteers from Help to Heroes kept them going.

Speaking about the journey, Michael Matthews, a member of the charity's Band of Brothers, said: "The charity turned my life around, especially the times I spent at Tedworth. They helped me with my mental health issues, funding my bike and also gave a huge amount of support to my family.

"So it only seemed right that I would start my Hero ride journey from a place that means so much to me. Help for Heroes gave me my life back and taking part in Hero Ride is a small token of thanks. I was in a dark place but because of this amazing charity my life is a happy one again."

Cyclists from Tedworth house were joined by 70 fundraisers and supporters. Once the team arrived at Windsor, they were able to reunite with other Help for Heroes team members.
