The armed forces charity SSAFA is urging volunteers to participate in a mass tea making event in a bid to raise money to pay for struggling soldiers.

Taking place across the UK from June 22-28, 2015, the Big Brew Up will see people across the country making pots of tea to go towards the SSAFA.

This will help to support the ex-servicemen and their families struggling to come to terms with mental or physical conditions that occur as a result of their time in service.

Last year, the Big Brew up raised over £100,000 and the charity is hoping to do even better this year.

Speaking about the findings, Beverley Mayal, one of the 2015 Big Brew Up ambassadors, said: "We are delighted to be acting as ambassadors for this year’s Big Brew Up. SSAFA reached out and gave our family genuine care and support when we needed it the most.

"Although the war has ended, the effects of Afghanistan are not over for many of us, your Big Brew Up will help to ensure that SSAFA supports more Forces families like ours in their time of need.”

As part of their campaign, the SSAFA will highlight some of the real-life stories which help to demonstrate how the charity is able to assist soldiers.

It claimed that £10 a month can go towards helping provide food vouchers to a veteran who has fallen on hard times, while £50 pays for a specialist SSAFA caseworker to provide extensive practical, financial and emotional support to help a soldier rebuild their life.

Verity Maylam, SSAFA’s Big Brew Up Coordinator, said: "The Big Brew Up provides a fantastic opportunity to arrange a get-together with family, friends or colleagues and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst at the same time raising vital funds that will make a real difference to members of the British Forces and their families.”

The armed forces charity SSAFA is urging volunteers to participate in a mass tea making event in a bid to raise money.

[6
