<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A group of heroic ex-army soldiers have decided to take up the fight against the Islamic State in Syria, it has been revealed.<\/p>\n
The eight-strong team are set to fight as a single volunteer unit, alongside the Kurdish militias.<\/p>\n
A number of the soldiers have previously had special forces training. The soldiers will be deployed to northern Syria and will join a growing number of foreign fighters who have enlisted to defeat the terrorist group.<\/p>\n
According to a report that appeared in the Evening Standard, around 100 Westerners have now joined the fight against ISIS.<\/p>\n
The former soldiers told the Evening Standard they had used their own money to buy their uniforms and created a sword symbol to represent their group entitled IVFOR (International Volunteer Force).<\/p>\n
The group has taken up training at a location in Europe, after planning the venture for some time.<\/p>\n
One Veteran told the Evening Standard: "I and several colleagues all ex-armed forces have formed a small unit which is open for any English speaking individuals from any nation. We will be in Syria within weeks and are training everyday. We intend to submit our skills to the people of Kurdistan.<\/p>\n
"Although we wear a similar uniform to UK armed forces, we have no association to them other then the fact that we are ex-armed forces. Our cap badge is lightning crossed by a sword, Cita et Certa – Swift and Sure. We will deploy a strong force to aid the Kurdish militias. We intend to work as one effective, rather than split or tag onto other militia units."<\/p>\n
Other Britons to have taken up arms against ISIS include Macer Gifford, 28, who left a job in the City and former bouncer Tim Locks, who worked at a Staines nightclub, and sold his home to join a militia unit in Kurdistan. <\/p>\n
The ex-soldiers claim they have already raised over £13,000 to fund their trip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
