A business park has donated a substantial amount of money to Help for Heroes after it decided to assist the military charity, which does priceless work with injured service personnel year after year in the UK.

Lakeside Business Park raised money through a number of different ventures over the past few month, with the main bulk of the funds coming from the fact that it held a Colour Me Happy Fun Run in its grounds earlier this year.

The staff that work in the business park voted Help for Heroes as its charity of the year for 2014, and the business park managed to donate more than £640 to the charity, reports the Portsmouth News.

The money was collected by Hero Bear – the Help for Heroes mascot – at a special event that was arranged as a way to celebrate Help for Heroes being picked as the charity of the year for Lakeside.

Karen Tyrrell, client manager at Lakeside, said: "We are delighted that our personnel have decided on Help for Heroes, as it is a charity that is very close to the hearts of many people in this area, many of whom have loved ones serving or who have served in the armed forces."

The charity had been suggested by Derek Benger, who works for contractor Mitie at Lakeside, as his local pub also does a lot of work for Help for Heroes with regards to raising money. He told the news provider that the priceless work done by the charity can never be underestimated.

Elsewhere, locals in the village of Wilberfoss in the East Riding of Yorkshire are set to raise money for Help for Heroes through a new fancy dress event. The evening will take place at The Pavilion on Saturday November 29th from 7.30pm and will feature live entertainment and a disco.
