The Stortford-based outfit presented a cheque worth £712 at the town’s British Legion after collecting money from audiences during the week-long run of drama Journey’s End during October. <\/p>\n
It’s just another example of the admirable and worthwhile efforts made by people across the country as they look to honour and support the efforts made by those in the military. <\/p>\n
Journey’s End is set in the trenches of Saint-Quentine, Aisne, in northern France during the end of the First World War and presents the experience of officers in the build up to Operation Michael.<\/p>\n
It was a rather fitting choice of performance, as the country has recently observed Remembrance Day and 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I. <\/p>\n
At each performance by the Contexture Theatre group, artistic producer Simon Anderson revealed that donations would be collected, while Help for Heroes wristbands were also available for a small contribution. <\/p>\n
Mr Anderson was surprised and delighted by the amount of money raised at the performances, and he’s right to be proud of the achievements of the company and the generosity of theatregoers.<\/p>\n
"The bucket was sitting throughout the run of the play. It shows what people around here can do," he told the Herts and Essex observer.<\/p>\n
Retired corporal Jamie Hull collected the cheque in a presentation with Gailie Pollock of Contexture and volunteer Heather Waterfield. <\/p>\n
Mr Hull is involved in the Help for Heroes-partnered Flying for Freedom, a group that uses Microlight flying training to help the recovery process for sick, wounded or injured people, as well as those still in rehabilitation. <\/p>\n
A former member of the parachute regiment, Mr Hull encountered some serious injuries as a result of his solo aircraft catching fire in 2007.<\/p>\n
However, he has since been involved in numerous activities and fundraisers, including the Battle Back Race Across America; an eight-person team race across the United States by cycling. He has also helped mentor young people in Kenya. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
