With Halloween just a few days away, the chances of seeing a ghost in your house is probably higher than at other times of the year, largely because people will be hanging all manner of decorations.

However, one mother in Wiltshire has had a recent shock after taking a photo of her new home and seeing a face staring back at her. Michelle Midwinter of Trowbridge was snapping a photo of her abode to share with her friends on Facebook, but when she looked closer, she saw the ghostly visage looking out from one of the front windows.

The 30-year old said she was simply admiring the picture of her house in the moments after taking it when all of a sudden the face jumped out at her. In a mild panic, she ran back into the house to investigate, only to find that there was absolutely no one around.

She is now convinced that the property has a resident ghost. "I ran into the house to make sure no one was in there because I knew everyone else was at work, but it was just me and my two-year-old daughter," she told MailOnline.

Local historian Andrew Jones, 50, believes the photo bears a striking resemblance to Samuel Kent, the father of infamous murderer Constance Kent.

"From looking at the photograph, to me it looks like Samuel Kent. I know Samuel lived and worked as a factory inspector in the area, so there’s every chance it could be him," the historian said.

In other news, a number of photos taken at a seance in 1930 have been released, purporting to show a successful event wherein a ghostly woman seems to have appeared.

The images, found in the records of Lieutenant Colonel E. J. Gordon Tucker at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), show a number of participants sitting around while a figure in a shawl looms ominously over them.

So, ghost or not? According to photography experts, there may actually be a reasonable explanation. Apparently the photos may just simply be a double exposure on the plate, or even an elaborate 1930s trick in which a mannequin played the starring role of the ghost.
