Some 300 people recently attended a Help for Heroes-supporting family fun day at Woodley Green's The Bull & Chequers pub, Reading.

"It was a great day and we had quite a good turnout," team leader Tim Stanfield told news provider getreading.

He said that the pub began its support for Help for Heros as some of the people who regularly visit it used to be service people.

Speaking earlier this month, he also said that the pub planned a kart race in mid September as another fundraiser.

Close to £600 was brought in for Help for Heroes (H4H) all in all at the August 23rd fun day, the news provider reports.

It was the fourth such event that the pub has held for the charity, with Rachel Bridge and Gavin Knight – landlady and landlord – cooking on the BBQ during the occasion.

There was an inflatable play area for the children, as well as a coconut shy, raffle and DJs, while the Basil & Crew mobile farm brought creatures for people to meet.

Elsewhere in the country, there's an art installation in place that is also helping Help for Heroes.

Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London in the capital features ceramic poppies which are being sold at £25 each to support H4H as well as the likes of the Confederation of Service Charities and Combat Stress.

More than 800,000 poppies are being put in place in the moat of the Tower as part of the installation, which is tied in with the First World War's centenary.

Earlier this year, it was visited by Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
