A man is planning to complete an unusual trek across Italy dressed as a Roman soldier in order to raise money for charity.

Ben Kane, 43, from Clutton is set to wear 3.5 stone of authentic Roman armour as he walks 130 miles from Capua to Rome, reports the Somerset Guardian.

He was joined by fellow authors Anthony Riches and Russell Whitfield last year to walk the length of Hadrian's Wall, raising £19,000 in the process.

This time, the trio will walk 19 miles every day as they seek to complete the Italian route and they have already raised £9,500 towards their total.

All of the money raised will be split between military charity Combat Stress and Doctors Without Borders.

"We did it last year to see what it was like to wear the armour and to raise money for charity. This year we will be filmed for a documentary while we walk," Mr Kane stated.
