Thousands of people packed into the streets of Edinburgh on Saturday (May 8th) to welcome home the 3 Rifles from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
In a highly emotional day, members of the public lined the Royal Mile as troops made their way from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace and cheered them on all the way.<\/p>\n
An army spokeswoman said that the turnout and the well wishes from the crowd really plucked at the soldiers’ heart strings.<\/p>\n
You couldn’t walk down the pavements of the Royal Mile because there were that many people waiting to see them. The guys looked pretty emotional, pretty choked," she stated.<\/p>\n
Members of the 11st Battalion the Royal Welsh were given a similar welcome in Chester recently.<\/p>\n
The 550-member strong troop enjoyed an emotional reunion with family and friends in the city following their five-month tour of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
During the fighting, the regiment found the biggest improvised explosive device ever discovered by the British army.<\/p>\n
