Clashes between cyclists and motorists are becoming increasingly common on the UK's highways, with plenty of potential for flashpoints between the two types of road users in existence.

Indeed, there is probably not a cyclist in the land who has not at some point felt compelled to show their anger at a passing drive for one reason or another, while car owners frequently find fault in the way those on two wheels use the roads.

One such case that occurred recently has become an internet hit, after the cyclist involved managed to capture it on film.

His video starts with him cycling along a road, seemingly enjoying a peaceful and safe ride, only for one passing vehicle to get a little too close for comfort. The car brushes past the rider and he immediately raises his arms to vent his fury.

As the car speeds off, it seems the possibility of a discussion is lost, but the cyclist manages to catch up with the driver at the next set of traffic lights.

The driver winds his window down, before the cyclist states: "Can you just give us a bit more room next time please?"

Nobody could have predicted what happens next, as the man at the wheel of the car appears apologetic for his actions and replies: "Sorry, I've got a parrot dying here."

As he does so, he points to his jacket, under which a parrot is concealed, presumably on the way to the vets for emergency treatment.

The cyclist, as shocked as anyone would be at such a bizarre reason for his near-miss with a car, accepts the apology and even wishes the parrot well before pedalling off into the distance.
