The collapse of a ceiling at a brand new sports arena in Russia is being blamed on a hugely unlikely suspect – a cat.

A video taken at Sochi's Adler Arena shows part of the ceiling falling to the ground in the run-up to the Winter Olympics, which are currently taking place in the city.

Moments later, a furry feline also drops to the floor, leading some people to believe it was responsible for the incident.

Built at a cost of $32 million (£19 million), many will believe that such an expensive and hi-tech venue should not be damaged in such a way by a cat.

Although there has been no official verification of the video, Fox Sports and USA Today are among those to have confirmed the footage was shot inside the arena in Sochi.

It should serve as a reminder of just how dangerous cats can be. Or not.
