A soldier from Nuneaton has completed one of the toughest rowing assignments in the world by travelling 3,000 miles across the Atlantic.

Corporal Scott Blaney and other members of the Row2Recovery team took part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge and eventually finished in third place.

It took them 48 days, nine hours and 13 minutes to complete the arduous journey from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua after setting out on December 4th.

Each of the rowers taking part took it in turns to complete two-hour shifts and even dealt with severely stormy conditions.

Corporal Blaney told the Nuneaton News: "This row has been a huge challenge and a great personal achievement but for me the greatest achievement is doing something to help the wounded community."

To date, the team has raised more than £17,000 for Help for Heroes, which works to support injured and wounded servicemen and women.
