A man has come up with an unusual plan to raise money for charity – selling the Brussels sprouts he did not get round to eating over Christmas.

It is the second year in a row that Dan Allam from Ledbury in Herefordshire has decided to put his uneaten vegetables up for sale on auction site eBay.

So far, the sprouts have attracted a high bid of £26 and there is still time for the sum to go up further.

Any money he raises will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which helps children with life-threatening illnesses to enjoy unforgettable experiences.

Mr Allam's auction listing explained: "The winning bidder will be given the option to have the sprouts washed prior to them being posted (yes, I intend on posting them) but this is entirely at the buyer's discretion."

The sprouts have come straight from his Christmas dinner plate and even include remnants of turkey, cheese sauce and broccoli.
