Help for Heroes has received a cheque for more than £250,000 after a series of fundraising events.

The Race2Recovery group was formed by wounded service personnel and veterans with the aim of raising money for those who require support after being in the armed forces.

Members decided they wanted to inspire those who are injured or facing a difficult future so chose to complete the Dakar Rally – the toughest race in the world.

Among the companies that chose to sponsor Race2Recovery, allowing it to generate so much cash, were Land Rover, Bosch, Castrol EDGE, Orange Plant and Inmarsat.

The money was presented to Help for Heroes' recovery centre at Tedworth House, with centre manager Giles Woodhouse expressing his gratitude.

"What the Race2Recovery team have achieved over the past two years is incredible and gives a strong message to all of our wounded, injured and sick – that they can still achieve remarkable things," he stated.
