Members of the public in Norfolk have been advised to ignore the growing number of people dressed as clowns who have been spotted in the region recently.

Police said there is nothing to fear from the fancy dress fanatics, and they cannot do anything about it as it is not against the law to dress up as a clown.

One person contacted the police on Tuesday (November 26th) after spotting someone in a full clown outfit in Gaywood, near King's Lynn.

Superintendent Carl Edwards said the clowns likely want attention so the best plan is for people to simply not give it to them.

"We know there has been a lot of gossip and conversations about this on social media channels, not just in Norfolk, and it is important to gain a perspective on these incidents," he stated.

The policeman also explained one tactic used by some of the clowns is to wait for people to be startled by them and then chase them for a short distance.
