Women in their 30s and 40s who sign up to online dating sites have been named as the fussiest of all.

A new study by Australian website AYI.com has discovered the pickiest singletons are female, following a survey of 100,000 cyber interactions, reports the Herald Sun.

Ladies in this age range ignore 97 per cent of men who send them messages, mainly because they receive communications from older men who they are not interested in.

However, the slightly younger men these women would like to date are too busy trying to catch the eye of girls in their 20s.

Interestingly, simple lines such as "Where are you from originally?" and "Would you like to get a drink with me?" were found to be the most effective when it comes to starting a conversation on the internet.

On the other hand, those who open an exchange with words such as "Wanna ziggy ziggy?" and "Where are you my beautiful soul mate?" have the least chance of success.
