A family was stunned to find a python in their oven recently, only discovering the snake by accident as they tried to cook a meal.

Karen Jackson, 41, from Blyth in Northumberland had recently had a brand new oven fitted when she was alerted to the attention of the reptile by her daughter.

"Everything was fine and we used it every day without any problems. Then on Monday I heard my daughter scream. I ran to the oven and saw this snake slithering around," she told Metro.

Only two hours before her daughter came across the snake, Ms Jackson had used the oven herself to cook a pizza.

Her partner Chris Petrou, 39, said the family had no idea about snakes so were unable to work out if the creature was poisonous.

It was soon removed by a neighbour who keeps snakes and after contacting the oven supplier, the reptile was found to be a factory worker's stepdaughter's pet.
