Ice cream lovers have been given exciting news in the form of a brand new glow-in-the-dark version of the sweet treat.

Bristol inventor Charlie Francis has come up with a recipe for a luminous ice cream, which is now in the early stages of production.

Perhaps the only drawback is that the unusual dessert will cost people £140 for a single scoop, making it way beyond many budgets.

The ice cream becomes glow-in-the-dark thanks to a protein that has been added. The inventor managed to persuade experts in China to create the protein, which is responsible for making jellyfish light up.

Mr Francis explained: "It is incredible stuff but still at very early days in terms of production. The protein we are using in the ice cream reacts with your tongue at neutral pH."

Luckily, he was able to get it out just in time for Halloween, when it is sure to be most popular.
