The event, held by former soldier Gregg McLeod, will go towards assisting members of the armed forces who have been wounded while serving on the frontline, Chester First reports.<\/p>\n
Attendees at the event – which was held at Doubletree by Hilton in Chester – were treated to a three-course meal, chocolate fountain, casino entertainment and a showcase of the talents of a professional singer.<\/p>\n
A charity auction was also held, which saw people win prizes including a meal at the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar and Grill at the hotel. <\/p>\n
But this is not the first time Mr McLeod – who received two awards for his bravery while serving in Afghanistan – has helped the charity’s fundraising efforts. In January 2010, he ran a marathon and a half to help raise cash for the cause.<\/p>\n
He said: "It is all too often you hear in the media about the deaths of our young servicemen and women. Yet we rarely hear about those who survive with horrific, life-altering injuries."<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Gazette recently reported that former soldier David Beech is set to embark on an 84-mile coast-to-coast trek to raise money for Help for Heroes. <\/p>\n
