Troops serving in Afghanistan have welcomed the first of 500 new friendly faces deployed to help them smash the Taliban to pieces.

Yesterday, the first wave of extra soldiers, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh, arrived on a C-130 Hercules aircraft after leaving the Dale Barracks in Chester.

Corporal Andrew Wrigley said as he stepped off the plane that he can’t wait to stand side-by-side with those already on the frontline.

"It feels good, we’ve come to back-up the guys who are already here and hopefully make a bit of difference," he stated.

That’s exactly how 2nd Lieutenant John Murphy felt as well.

"It feels good, it feels like you’re doing an important job. It’s good to finally get out here," he added.

They’ll soon be joined by 30,000 US troops after Barack Obama announced the states will up its presence in the country to help defeat the Taliban.
