A group of kickboxers have come together in the north of England in a bid to raise as much cash as possible for Help for Heroes.

The 25 sports enthusiasts got together at Horwich Kickboxing Club in Horwich for a sponsored spar, the Bolton News reports.

In total, they managed to raise an impressive £2,700, with each of the participants tackling ten two-minute sessions against each other that were designed to improve both their fitness and technique.

Steve Reilly, owner of the club and a kickboxing coach, said: "Everyone here was … very moved by the tragic death of Lee Rigby and we wanted to do something to help the charity."

He added that all the kickboxers had done really well to compete in the event, with the youngest member of the group aged just five.

Another youngster, seven-year-old Ruby Cutton, raised some £220 in sponsorship to support the likes of her grandfather, who is a serving soldier.
