People in the north-west came together at the weekend to celebrate the 1940s and raise money for a military charity at the same time.

Businesses and market traders in Westhoughton hosted a specially themed event on Saturday (July 6th), with all the proceeds due to be sent to the Our Local Heroes Foundation, reports the Bolton News.

Speaking before the day, Councillor Christopher Peacock, the mayor of Westhoughton, said: "I am looking forward to it and I am sure it will be a brilliant success. The Victorian Days are always really successful and engage the whole community."

He added that while Armistice Day is a good opportunity to remember all those who have fallen, it is also nice to pay tribute with events all year round.

People from shops and restaurants dressed up in 1940s clothing for the day, while a host of entertainment options were also on offer from organisers.
