The House of Lords is dumping £100,000 worth of taxpayers' money into funding new toilets.<\/p>\n
They will be used by peers and VIP guests and are being refurbished because they are currently in an "unacceptable condition for the high profile area they are in".<\/p>\n
Contractors are currently being sought to carry out the job – although it might be a step too far for the DIY weekend warriors among us.<\/p>\n
As the Palace of Westminster is a Grade I listed building the re-fit needs to comply with English Heritage requirements, which will include replacing historic oak panelling, new decorations and sanitary equipment.<\/p>\n
Matthew Sinclair, from the Taxpayers' Alliance, said that the cost involved was "eye-watering" and this money could be used by a family to build their own home.<\/p>\n
It has not been confirmed whether the House of Lords toilets will need sordid graffiti clearing from the doors, or whether the re-fit will include an attendant selling deodorant and aftershave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
