Help for Heroes was delighted to receive a cheque for £1,500 recently, when a group of motorcyclists roared up to one of its recovery centres to deliver the money.

More than 350 motorbikes were on hand to ride to Phoenix House in Catterick Garrison, where the military charity offers support and courses to wounded servicemen, reports the Northern Echo.

It was the second year in a row that the ride has been organised by Bad Landers from Newcastle, and it attracted motorcyclists from all over Teesside, Northumberland and Lancashire.

Tony Laker, one of the organisers, said: "Many of us are veterans or have family members in the services and, once word got out about the ride to Catterick, the whole thing just snowballed."

The money raised and donated by the bikers will go towards providing direct and practical support to the veterans housed in Catterick Garrison who have suffered life-changing injuries.
