The mother of a soldier who was seriously injured in Afghanistan is hosting a Colossal Cake Sale in a bid to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Sally Amoore of Llanddewi Velfrey saw her son Jamie, 28, return from combat to spend four months in hospital and undergo 15 operations, reports the Western Telegraph.

He was blown 30ft into the air as a result of stepping on a mine planted by the Taliban and he suffered horrific injuries.

Ms Amoore said: "Without charities like Help for Heroes, these brave men who we ask so much of would never get the level of support they deserve and so badly need."

Jamie is now back in the Army, although he still faces the prospect of undergoing further operations before he makes a fully recovery.

The Colossal Cake Sale will take place on April 27th at the Townsmoor car park in Narberth, with Ms Amoore's previous effort raising £15,000.
