The people of Cardiff should be on the lookout for a dangerous spider which is believed to be on the loose in the city.

A team of asbestos removal experts discovered the recently shed skin of a tarantula while they were clearing out a 19th century property in the Roath area of the Welsh capital this week.

Its exposure to asbestos is believed to have made it potentially even more dangerous and it could have doubled in size to seven inches by now.

Surveyor Katie Parsons-Young was first on the scene and screamed in shock when she set eyes on the spider, before it ran away.

"I will certainly not be going back in there. I was absolutely petrified and couldn't stop shaking for two hours," she stated.

Experts are now busy studying the shed skin of the spider in order to make further judgements about its breed and condition.
