One pet owner experienced a major scare recently when her pet dog, which was due to arrive in Phoenix, Arizona, ended up in Ireland.

Hendrix the dog, a springer spaniel, was sent by plane from Newark, New Jersey, to the Emerald Isle after a mix-up involving an airline.

Meredith Grant, who was waiting for her pet pooch in Arizona, said: "When my mum called me, I was like 'My dog got sent to fricking Ireland'. She said, 'How Ireland?' [It's] not even like he went to Florida, he's in Ireland."

Ms Grant was forced to wait for officials in Ireland to feed Hendrix and put him on a plane back to the US and she believes the person responsible for the blunder should be sacked.

She described the feeling when she found out the dog was on the other side of the Atlantic as being like she had been kicked in the stomach.
