Residents of Grays in Essex have proven there is no better excuse to get their groove on than doing it in the name of charity.

To show support for soldiers serving on the frontlines in Afghanistan, former member of the armed forces Andy Johns organised a charity disco on Saturday night (March 20th), the Thurrock Gazette reports.

More than 200 movers and shakers attended the event, helping to raise a brilliant £1,690 for the Help for Heroes charity.

"A fantastic night was had by all," said Andy, who was injured while serving in Northern Ireland in the 1980s.

The event proved such a success with residents that a second disco has now been planned for later in the year in the hope of raising more money for the charity.

Elsewhere in fundraising efforts to support soldiers in Afghanistan, the Warrington Guardian recently reported that members of the 75 Engineer Regiment are set to cycle the gruelling 215-mile Trans-Pennine Trail to raise money for Help for Heroes.
