A man in Cincinnati has been told online dating should be enjoyed in his own time, rather than that of his company.

Ken Spruce, a data clerk at the Board of Elections, was reprimanded and told he could not use the internet during working hours after being caught trying to find love online, reports UPI.com.

The Cincinnati Enquirer originally revealed that Mr Spruce had even been docked a day's pay for his time spent on online dating sites.

He appealed against the decision and suggested it was common for employees to use the internet for personal reasons.

But the board rejected his claim and told him the ban and fine would continue to stand, leaving Mr Spruce relying on evenings and weekends to find love.

His case could be a reminder to everybody that while online dating is great fun and has plenty of benefits, it might be best to keep it from the prying eyes of an employer.
