Everyone knows that 4x4s are built to last and can come through some challenging situations.

But one man has stretched this notion further than most when he scaled Snowdon in his Vauxhall Frontera.

Craig Williams clearly didn't fancy climbing the highest mountain in Wales – which is 1,085 metres above sea level – in the traditional manner and so just jumped in his motor instead and kept on driving.

Once he reached the top, Mr Williams put a sign on the 4×4 saying: "Hello everyone and welcome to the highest point in England and Wales. My name is Trusty and I am a little legend."

However, the authorities were clearly not impressed by the stunt and don't have a sense of humour, as they have charged him with driving dangerously on footpaths and the mountain railway.

Prosecuting counsel Matthew Curtis said the car "could easily have slipped, overturned or gone over the edges".
