A soldier completed sit ups for 150 minutes straight in an effort to raise money for a charitable foundation.

Captain Ian Flannery managed to pack in 4,265 sit ups in the short time space, raising over £4,400 in the process, the Evening Gazette reports.

All of the money collected will go to the Captain James Philippson Trust Fund, which gives out cash to a number of charities, including Help for Heroes, Battle Back, ABF The Soldiers' Charity and SSAFA Forces Help.

Captain Flannery told the paper he was surprised at how well he got on considering he only managed 3,544 sit ups in his trial run two weeks beforehand.

He added the crowd who came to see him complete the challenge at Camp Bastion's dining facility inspired him to push himself as far as possible.

It comes after Captain Flannery raised £12,000 by running in the Marathon des Sables – a 250km race across the Sahara Desert.
