A man has raised money for Help for Heroes (H4H) after undertaking an extreme running challenge.

Sam Boatwright ran 50 miles every day for 50 days and raised £16,000 for the military charity in the process, the Craven Herald reports.

In recognition of his efforts, H4H presented him with one of its Hero's Awards at Tedworth House Recovery Centre in Wiltshire, while he has also been named as a Craven Community Champion.

Speaking about his experience of meeting soldiers who have been injured, Mr Boatwright said: "It was inspiring to see them and what they were able to do with limited ability. It shows a mindset that you have to keep going."

For his next challenge, the 30-year-old is planning to cycle along Route 66 in the US, which will see him cover 2,800 miles.

This challenge is due to take place in October 2013 and he has set a £100,000 fundraising target.
