A number of people in Sunderland have completed a daring zip wire attempt in an effort to raise money for Help for Heroes (H4H).

The challenge saw participants make the 250-metre journey from the Stadium of Light to Liebherr Cranes on the other side of the River Wear, the Sunderland Echo reports.

Individuals taking part in Zip Wear hit speeds of up to 25 mph and were suspended 45 m in the air.

Miss Sunderland 2012 winner Rebecca Mason was among those who took to the skies to collect money for H4H and she thought it was a fantastic experience.

She added: "I would definitely do it again but I do feel a bit shaky. It's not that bad at all, it's something you don't get to do every day either."

It marks the second time the event has been held, after the inaugural hosting took place back in April of this year.
