NASA spends millions of pounds every year trying to get pictures of earth from outer space.

But one resourceful young man from Worcestershire has managed to create some stunning snaps on a much smaller budget.

Adam Cudworth, who attends Nottingham University, bought a £30 camera on eBay and then floated into the stratosphere using a hot air balloon.

He also installed a GPS device, radio and microprocessor so he could follow the balloon as it re-entered the earth's atmosphere on the descent.

Luckily for Mr Cudworth, it landed only 30 miles from his home and he was able to go and recover it and upload the pictures taken.

"The onboard video camera recorded great footage close to the ground after launch … [it] looked rather impressive," the 19-year-old said.

All in all, the project only cost the teenager £200 to run and he has some stunning snaps to show for it.
