Some £5,000 has been raised for charities including Help for Heroes thanks to a charity bike ride.

Over 100 riders took to the roads of Harrogate to be part of the event, dubbed the pint-sized Tour De France, the Harrogate News reports.

Everyone involved completed a 22-mile distance after they started off at the George at Wath.

Chris Wade, who organised the event, noted it is the sixth time the cycle has taken place and plans are well underway for the seventh instalment.

Simon Theakston, executive director of T&R Theakston, which sponsored the occasion, said: "This really was a superb charity bike ride and I am delighted to have been involved with it as both a participant and a sponsor."

He added all the charities that will benefit carry out invaluable work in the local community in the area.

Tommy's Kids with Leukemia, Macmillan Nurses and Cancer Research were among the other good causes to receive cash.
