A group of young people with autism have completed a charity trek to raise money for Help for Heroes (H4H).

The pupils at ESPA College in Sunderland tackled part of Hadrian's Wall in an effort to collect cash for the military charity, the Sunderland Echo reports.

So far, the sponsored walk has received over £4,000 and it is part of a long-standing commitment from the learning centre to support good causes.

Jak Dixon, assistant college co-ordinator, revealed the 16-strong group had to cope with an alteration to their usual routine, while they can often struggle to empathise with others.

"They have challenged themselves beyond their expectations. People with autism find change very hard and they are into it 100 per cent," he added.

The students have also recorded a single – which is available on iTunes – and all of the proceeds from sales will go to the H4H.
