Some £20,000 has been raised for military charity Help for Heroes (H4H) after a group of 12 men undertook a 420-mile cycle.

The Toon to Town challenge, which saw people make their way from Newcastle to Llanelli in five days, was hugely successful, the Berwick Advertiser reports.

Steve Flook, who was one of the men taking part, stated: "We'd like to say a big thank you to all the people who have made donations in these difficult economic times and to the people who supported the trip."

It is the third time the epic journey has taken place and former Welsh rugby stars Gareth Jenkins, Vernon Cooper and Iestyn Thomas joined in for the final leg to Parc y Scarlets, home of the Scarlets rugby team.

Mr Flook described seeing the Personal Recovery Centre at Catterick barracks as a humbling experience, but added it is good to find out how the money is being used.
