The London Olympic Games will give UK competitors the chance to showcase their skills on the big stage.

A number of athletes will be keen to go home with the gold medal and the adoration of the public.

However, across the Atlantic Ocean another massive competition has also been held – the Summer Redneck Games.

Mud pit jumping, watermelon pip spitting and toilet seat tossing are among the events being held at the games, which are now in their 16th year.

The madness takes place in East Dublin, Georgia and everyone involved is keen to scoop the ultimate accolade – the crushed beer can trophy.

There are only three rules at the event – no pets, no glass bottles and no free re-admittance – and the light-hearted competition does have a compassionate side, as all money raised from the hosting of it goes to local charities.

It is anticipated some 95,000 people have attended the goofy contest since 1996.
