Two men have climbed Mount Denali in Alaska for Help for Heroes.

Measured base-to-peak, it is the tallest mountain on land at 20,320 feet and so Steve Berry and Ray Smith had their work cut out to succeed, the South Shields Gazette reports.

After spending two weeks acclimatising to the conditions, the pair finally made it to the summit yesterday (May 27th).

"We are both well and at the moment are in Talkeetna cleaning up and looking forward to putting on the weight we have both lost with a few beers and normal food," Mr Berry remarked.

So far, the two men have collected nearly £1,250 for the military charity and Mr Berry observed they are looking forward to getting back to the UK.

It means the man has now conquered four of the Seven Summits – the highest peaks in the seven continents – after Mount Everest in the Himalayas, Mount Kosciuszko in Australia and Argentina's Aconcagua.
