A retired soldier will skydive on his 77th birthday to raise cash for SSAFA Forces Help.

Andrew Paviour, who used to be secretary and treasurer of the Salisbury branch of the armed forces charity, is going to jump out of a plane at 13,000 ft.

The Salisbury Journal observed it is over five decades since he last completed a parachute jump.

So far, Mr Paviour has collected nearly £2,500 for the good cause, which exceeds his £2,000 target.

"This is something I've always wanted to do, so it seemed a good opportunity to raise a few pounds for the SSAFA Salisbury Division, with which I've been associated for many years," he stated.

Mr Paviour continued by saying the organisation does a fantastic job of providing support to both current and ex-servicemen and women.

He will be carrying out the challenge on Sunday (May 20th) and is hoping to drink a bottle of champagne upon its completion.
